Central Park, High Street South, E6
The main park in East Ham has a bowls green, playground, cafe and nature reserve. This Park is the venue for the Mayor’s Festival each summer.


Newham City Farm, King George Ave, E16
One of London’s largest city farms. Here you can see all your farmyard favourites and contribute to the community.

East Ham Nature Reserve, Norman Road, E6
Beautiful Nature reserve, historic church and churchyard which runs ‘Green Gym’ sessions every Wednesday.

Plashet Park, Plashet Grove, E6
Another green space in East Ham (close to Forest Gate). Recently undergone a million pound facelift and has a bowling green and a tennis court. Cafe due to open Spring 2016.

Brampton Park, Masterman Road, E6
Small park near Brampton Primary with a great play area, paddling pool and outdoor gym.


Forest Tavern, Forest Lane, E7
Antic Gastro Pub in Forest Gate with fussball table, and games available. Holds a Vinyl fair once a month.

Antic Pubs

Pub chain who run several pubs in the Far East{london} area. Owners of The Forest Tavern, Red Lion in Leyton and many more. They are the only pub chain expanding in Newham, and offer a family friendly alternative.

CAMRA pub in Plaistow, serving a range of ales and classic pub grub.

Roof East, Great Eastern Way, E15 
An amazing car park roof top come bar come cinema come community space in Stratford

Golden Fleece, Capel Road, E12
Newly refurb’d pub in Manor Park

Ruskin Arms, High Street North, E12
Legendary rock and roll pub now turned into a hotel with hotel bar which is open to the public.

The Boleyn, 1 Barking Road

Beautiful building, worth checking out. Largely, a football pub but holds quiz nights, and karaoke once per month. Timothy Tailor is on draft occasionally.


Urban Chocolatier, Green Street, Upton Park, E7
Artisan dessert Lounge and ice cream parlour on green street.

Kaybayan, 12 Walton Road (Green Street)

Traditional Filipino and Asian cuisine in a no frills eatery (also serves the usual full english etc)

Tippy’s Cafe, Barking Road, E6
Delicious Thai and English Cafe on Barking Road with a calm and comfortable vibe.

Minh’s Vietnamese, Barking Road, E13
Vietnamese restaurant and takeaway on Barking Road.

Udaya, Katherine Road, E6
South Indian Keralan seafood restaurant recommended to us by one of our readers.

Renowned dosa house on Green Street. Get there early or be prepared to queue.


Coffee 7, Sebert Road E7 
Forest Great Coffee house come community hub. These guys have lectures, yoga, art pop ups and the like.

Another Forest Great coffee shop and bakery. They don’t seem to have a website though.

A local running club suitable for all ages and levels. We tell you all about it here…

Bathhouse, Barking Learning Centre (BLC), Town Square, IG11
Spa and treatment rooms that hold Yoga classes. Bath House Barking started as an olympic games pop up and is now located at BLC.


Robs Bikes, E6
A local bike fixing man, who will come to your house if you need him to.


Greatfield Residents Association
East Ham South’s Residents association. These guys are seriously in the know, put on events and markets, write a local blog. Check them out.

The East Hammer
A cheeky little website that finds the funny side of East Hams underbelly.

Love Newham app
An app created by the council to help you keep your neighbourhood tidy and easily report fly tipping in your area.

    Thanks for your website, a great resource for us ‘eastenders’ . It’s great to find out about local places and events you might otherwise be unaware of. May l bring to your notice a great Cafe/Bar in Abbey Road, Barking which deserves further attention. It’s called ‘The Boathouse’, an apt name as it is located beside the River Roding , site of Barking’s Fishing history. The Boathouse offers a range of locally sourced food and drinks served by friendly and welcoming staff in a relaxed and informal atmosphere ideal for people from all walks of life. The riverside terrace offers the opportunity for al fresco enjoyment in milder weather. Seek it out. It’s well worth it.
