Noodly goodness: Minh’s Vietnamese, E13

We have found THE MOST delicious vietnamese restaurant this side of Dalston.

No, wait, in EAST LONDON.

It’s called MINH (formally known as Duc’s Kitchen), and is unassumingly blending in and minding its own business on Barking Road, E13.

I know, I know, its fighting talk, especially with Kingsland Road fast becoming the GO TO noodle mile, but honestly, this place is waaaaay better.

As well seasoned east londoners, we have excessively sampled Dalstonian vietnamese delights and can claim to be SERIOUS noodle fans. So imagine our delight to discover a brilliant place just a mile up the road.

Perfect prawns, super slurp-ilicious noodles and a papaya salad which melted our taste buds and our minds.

We ordered salt & pepper prawns, A papaya salad and summer rolls to start, followed up by a spicy chicken bun bo hue (noodle soup) and stir fry beef with jasmine rice.

Oh, we were not disappointed. Every single item was beautiful. We ate every scrap and if I am honest, we considered licking the plates! The flavours were delicate, the batter for the prawns was light and airy and the herbs fresh and punchy. I am dribbling into my computer just writing this!

Friendly staff in a traditional takeaway style set up.

Being on Barking road, they are set up as a typical takeaway with easy wipe tables and plastic chairs but do not judge a book by its cover. Minh’s is deceivingly low key. Some might (at a push) go so far as quirky, with their inspirational messages on the wall, a few traditional oriental artworks, and the obligatory big screen TV playing eastern movies. They also have a full electric fire and mantle tucked in the corner by the door to keep the draft out (which they helpfully switched on for us, what with the weather on the turn and all that).

The staff were helpful, attentive and efficient. All our food was piping hot, and delivered with barely any waiting time. Honestly, we couldn’t fault them.

Brilliant, authentic and honest food. This place is a winner.

Our conclusion: Don’t expect white tablecloths and silver chop sticks or anything (you are on Barking road after all!), but if you want brilliant honest, authentic food at a reasonable price, this place is a winner.

This is our new favourite Far East{London} eatery. We know you will love it. See you there.

Couldn’t agree more. Minh’s has become by far my favourite takeaway. Their ca chien (fried fish) and shaking beef are particular standouts but everything I’ve had from there has been excellent. I haven’t eaten in there yet but I expect my Son and I will go for lunch sometime soon.
They do have their own website at http://www.minhrestaurant.co.uk
