Whats that? A flippin’ festival? With a beach, and a carnival? In EAST HAM?
Yes, that’s right. Every year Newham council hold The Mayor’s Newham Show, a totally banging 2 day event which happens to be happening in two WEEKS TIME! Get your diaries out now, and get it in there IN PEN (or for the technologically advanced, here’s a link to the Facebook event)!
So what do you need to know? There are craft stalls, food stalls, info stands about local stuff and stuff, a cabaret stage, a carnival and a SEASIDE (um, yep, with real sand, a paddling pool, beach huts, deck chairs and donkeys to ride). AND this year its 1960’s themed. Sounds like a blast (erm, from the past? *drums*).
Hula hoopers, jewellery making and a bake off to boot.
Throughout the 2 day fun-dango affair, there will be hola hoopers, interactive dance classes, the best 1960s’ cup cake competition, a Jam challenge, henna, jewellery making, a blacksmithing demonstration, and a family camp site, a cook off and tons of food stalls to keep you fed watered, entertained an generally loving life.
activeNewham will be there too, with sporting instructors and a fitness tent for you to try volley ball, basket ball and fencing.
1960s’ style for the 50th Anniversary of Newham…
This year is going to be bigger and badder than previous years because it is the 50th anniversary of the year the county boroughs of East Ham and West Ham got hitched, moved into the big smoke of London town (previously they were both in Barking, Essex) and changed their name to NEWHAM (New Ham, geddit? New…).
So to mark the occasion, they are making like Austin Powers and taking us back to 1965 with a psychedelically 60s’-a-fied theme…
